While summer is slipping away, we are still right in the heart of it and there are several weeks to go. I like to count summer days well into September.

There are many songs I know from the mid-80s that fit well with the summer season. They either mention summer or have an amped-up energy that fits so well with summer days. Maybe I remember hearing a few during the summer way back then too. Here are seven great tracks for your 80s summer playlist.

1. Electric Avenue — Eddy Grant 1983 — A very energetic, synthesizer-heavy track that will get any summer get-together going! Sample lyric — “We gonna walk down to Electric Avenue, and then we’ll take it higher”
2. Boys of Summer — Don Henley 1984 —Has such a timeless melody and evokes feelings of depth and nostalgia Sample lyric — “Those days are gone forever, I should just let em go but..”
3. Magic — The Cars — 1984 — Still remember this video featuring a pool party playing on repeat. Notable lyric “ Summer, it turns me upside down, summer summer summer .. is like a merry go round”
